AISA believes that daily, regular attendance is crucial to learning. Students must be present to participate in interactive and investigative activities. Parents are strongly encouraged to consider this philosophy when planning vacations or other activities which would take students away from scheduled school time. In the past, poor attendance has been responsible for students failing, not being able to graduate, or not being re-invited back to the school.
There is a limit of 25 absences (maximum total per year) for any reason, excused or unexcused, beginning on the first day of school.
The following communications will take place:
·8th absence: notification letter
·16th absence: parent conference with principal
·25th absence: notification that student is not invited back for the following academic year
6 tardies equal one absence.
For students missing extended periods due to illness a “homebound status” can be applied for, from the appropriate principal and implemented.
Students who are approaching or have surpassed the maximum permissible total of absences and parents can make an appeal to the director.
In the Elementary School a morning and afternoon register will be taken. If a student must leave during the school day, a written request must be given to the school office indicating the time and reason for leaving. When a student is absent from school during any school day, the student is not eligible to participate in after school activities or events.
If students are aware of an absence in advance, they must ask for the missed assignment(s) ahead of time. If the absence is due to illness or some other unforeseen reason, the work missed must be made up as soon as possible.
