Reasonable amounts of academic effort outside the class extends learning and reinforces study skills. Homework activities can promote independent inquiry and demonstrate the pupil’s initiative as a learner.
Based on current education research, the norm for nightly homework for elementary students should be 10 minutes of homework per grade level. The recommendation is based on the norm for the age range; some students will work faster than others, while some will work for longer periods of time to accomplish the same task.
KG2 & 1st Grade10 minutes

5th Grade50 minutes
Elementary students needing to spend significantly more than this amount of time on a regular basis may be having difficulty with the curriculum.Parents are asked to let teachers know if this occurs so that plans can be made to provide assistance. There will be larger assignments from time to time, unit of inquiry summative assessment for example, that will require extended periods of time.
